USA - Canada - Mexico 2016 - Day 61

Saturday, 5 November 2016 - Guatalajara, Mexico - Wedding Day

Well, the day we've all been waiting for and the reason we are all over here has finally arrived. There were some very excited people around but things were kept under control and managed very well by Astrid's Wedding Planner. Very difficult to organise a wedding in Mexico when you are living in Australia. She needed all the help she could get.

The ladies headed for the hairdresser for the finishing touches and we were almost ready to go when our taxi guy called to say he was here and ready to go. 30 minutes early. He wasn't going to get caught out like yesterday. As it turned out, although the traffic was lighter, there were road closures due to a cycling event then an accident preventing the normal access to the venue for the photographs. We arrived in plenty of time.

The day started with a hiccup for the groom and groomsmen when there was a water supply failure in their unit and the owner had to take them to his place for their preparations. The photo session went smoothly until there was an attempt to move the wedding car. As Rolls Royce would say, "The vehicle failed to proceed". Flat battery, removed by a couple of willing helpers, a quick charge on the spot and all was well.

The wedding got underway on time. No waiting for the bride here, the next wedding was to start 1 hour after Dan and Astrid's. Getting into the church, especially for the car, was a bit difficult as the church is in the middle of the city in one of the plazas. Plenty of people around and bus queues lined up when the car and wedding party had to assemble. Part of the fun of living in a city with such a large population.

Beautiful service, though being all in Spanish, it was all Greek to me. By the time we filed out of the church, greeted and congratulated everyone and sent the Bride and Groom off in the car, the next Bride's car was on its way in.

The wedding reception was a great night and celebrations went on into the early hours of the morning. Plenty of dancing, singing and everything else you do at these things. It was a bit different when a guy an stilts arrived to entertain and keep the party going. Talk about a performance, this guy danced, led some dancing, walked all around the room talking to people and handing out things, walked and jumped up and down steps and never looked unsteady on his "feet".

As I said yesterday, no way was I doing this update at 4:00am this morning so here it is, better late than never with pictures of the day for family and friends.

The after party is this afternoon, we'll see how we go.
